aluminium paste

The pigment to make metallic ink. Aluminium paste is the mixture of flaky aluminium and solvent. There are two types, leafing and non-leafing. In leafing type, flaky aluminium piles up like foliage, which makes glittering metallic gloss, although the chalking resistance on the printed surface is inferior to that of non-leafing type. The paste made of resin-coated aluminium is sometimes used for industrial purposes as its properties are better than normal type.

anti-static agent

The additive to prevent static-electricity by lowering the solid resistance on the surface. The addition or coating of this agent lowers the surface resistance of the materials such as plastics, rubber or fabrics. Surface-activator, inorganic salt, polyhydric alcohol, metal compounds or carbon is used as anti-static agent.

blocking

The problem that the piled printed matters stick to each other when the dried ink regains tackiness. The causes of this problem are insufficient drying, the thick ink film, gloss finish, pressure and heat.

bubble

Bubbles caused by mixing and stirring of the ink. Bubbles may be made by the air that is put into the ink by squeegee or scrapers.

compound

1) In printing field, compound means the additive to adjust the printability of the ink. The tackiness is decreased and the ink becomes thixotropic.
2) The additive to increase the viscosity. Although it is ideal that the compound has the opposite effect to reducer or thinner, it is practically difficult. Thixotropic agent is generally used for this reason.
3) In palstics field, compound means the material that can be formed as it is. The necessary additives such as plasticizer, filler, coloring agent or reinforcement agent is added to the synthetic resin to make this material.

To harden the ink film with reaction. UV curing means the drying with UV ray.

Glossary - D

de-foamer

In screen printing, the ink foams when it goes through the mesh. De-foamer is used to eliminate these bubbles. Although silicone de-foamer gives good effect even with small quantity, transparent ink becomes cloudy. Non-silicone de-foamer is chosen for transparent ink

dot gain

The phenomenon that the image gradually becomes thick in the printing process. Dot gain happens when low-viscous ink is printed too thickly or when the ink has smearing problem.
