JELCON IMD BINDER INK

PREFAC

JELCON IMD BINDER INK is designed to make printed film adhere to molded resin in insert-mold application.

APPLICATIONS

To adhere printed film to resin in insert-mold application.

TYPE OF PRODUCTS

The applicability of each binder to resin is as below.

Resin PMMA ABS PC
B-2 good excellent -
G-2S - good excellent

CHARACTERISTICS

  • As IMD BINDER INK is one-component type, printability is good.
  • Most suitable to insert-molding of ABS.(B-2)
  • Excellent performance in insert-molding of PC(G-2S)

HOW TO USE

Add THINNER by 10-30% to the ink and stir well. Use PC THINNER(fast drying, standard drying, slow drying).

DRYING

Although IMD BINDER dries at room temperature, adhesion is much effected by residue thinner. For this reason, forced drying is recommended (70-80°C(158-176°F), 30-60 minutes).

PRINTING OF IMAGES

The compatibility of binder ink and image-printing ink:

Image-printing ink / binder B-2 G-2S
3100 series FM * good good
3200 series SIM * good good
RC UIM 62 series good poor
  • If two-component ink such as FM or SIM is dried completely, good adhesion of binder ink may not be obtained. Print binder ink while FM/SIM ink is still in tack-free condition, and then dry the printed matter completely.

MOLDING CONDITIONS

Adhesion between ink and resin becomes better by setting the temperature of resin and metal dice high. However, adhesion varies depending on each molding conditions including molding machine, resin or metal dice. It is very important to perform pre-test to find the most suitable conditions.

WASHING UP

Use photo-stencil and coarser than 200 meshes/inch to make the ink film as thick as can. VINYL CLEANING THINNER is recommended for washing up.

PRECAUTIONS

  1. varies subject to the type of resin. It is essential to do pre-test to choose the suitable binder ink.
  2. Adhesion of resin and binder The results depends on various factors, e.g. choice of the ink and binder, printing conditions, type of resin, molding conditions. The best combination of all these factors can bring the good result. The performance of the finished product cannot be guaranteed only by binder ink. Please be sure to make trials to decide the final printing/molding conditions.
  3. IMD BINDER INK cannot be mixed with the image-printing ink. Each binder ink is not compatible. Do not mix them.
  4. Please refer to MSDS before use.
  5. Be sure to do trial print before commercial run to confirm that the product fits the purposes.
